Taking a Stand Against Hate Crime

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team took a creative stand against hate crime in support of Hate Crime Awareness Week.

Officer Minaz Aslam ran several awareness sessions in Tameside which were funded by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council to help reduce hate crime and encourage more people to report it.

At the Holy Trinity Community Centre in Ashton, 23 residents attended creative drama sessions that depicted hate crime scenarios.

The performances were facilitated by Perveen Hussain and residents also listened to an interactive presentation by ex-police constable Terry Flinn.

Minaz also hosted an awareness session at Ryecroft House with partners Ashton Pioneer Homes.

A total of 12 residents attended and were invited to come together and write a group poem to raise awareness of hate crime.
