Three community groups in Moss Side have been selected as recipients of the relaunched Moss Side Community Fund, including an innovative recycling project and a group which works to help improve school attendance and behaviour in teenage boys.
Jigsaw Homes work to deliver a wide range of initiatives for young people throughout Moss Side to strengthen the local community alongside partners One Manchester, Arawak, Great Places Housing Group and Mosscare St Vincents Housing.
As well as part-funding the community fund the team also helped decide to which projects to allocate funds to, with a focus on projects that encourage young people to stay away from gang violence while also creating community resilience.
After receiving a number of applications, the successful projects were:
- KYSO – a performing arts group working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to reduce anti-social behavior.
- Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse – a re-bicycle project to encourage young people to fix donated bikes which will then be given out to local residents.
- Families Against Violence – football based session at Manchester Academy that aim to improve behavior, school attendance and academic performance in boys aged 12-14 years.
Each applicant will be given their funds to spend within the year and Jigsaw will specifically monitor the work of the KYSO youth group.
