National Adult Safeguarding Week

National Adult Safeguarding Week

Last week was National Adult Safeguarding Week (18 – 22 November) which aims to raise awareness of safeguarding; a person’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

The theme for this year’s national week of action was ‘working in partnership.’

Jigsaw’s Hoarding Awareness Specialist Jayne Mee attended a number of events including the ‘Never Walk Alone Bereavement event’ with Niki Shepley, Jigsaw’s Hospital Discharge Worker at Academy HQ in Stalybridge, co-produced by Tameside MBC and Live Great Adventures CIC.

Here they helped to promote the hospital discharge service alongside the Hoarding Helping Hoarders peer support group, as hoarding is often linked to bereavement and loss, and were able to speak to members of the public.

Together with Tracy Thorley (Adults Safeguarding Lead at Tameside Council) Jayne also delivered a presentation online entitled ‘A Multi Agency Approach to Hoarding’. The online session was organised by Greater Manchester Social Work Academy, and 30 social workers across Greater Manchester joined to learn about our best practice approach.

Later in the week, Niki and Jayne attended Denton Community Support Event as part of safeguarding week to promote our work and learn more about what other services are available in Tameside to support our residents affected by hoarding.

Jayne said: “Working in partnership allows us all to share our knowledge of safeguarding and encourage us to consider how we can work together to establish safer cultures within our workplaces and communities.”
