Miles Platting Community Grocer received a generous food donation from Winning Hearts and Minds.
Winning Hearts and Minds is a local programme aimed at improving the physical and mental health of residents throughout Manchester.
The grocer helps to tackle food poverty and allows residents to buy £12 worth of food and household stock for £2.50. It also provides volunteer opportunities, training, activities and access to partner services.
Joao Lourenco from the programme visited the grocer with Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Gemma Bennet to learn about the work done by volunteers and how they help the local community. Winning Hearts and Minds also helped to run the grocer and donated £100 worth of stock.
Gemma was also able to secure £30 of essential pantry food donations from the Community Champion at ASDA in Longsight after the grocer was low on stock. The Neighbourhood Engagement team hopes to receive further funding and donations by working in partnership with different programmes.
