Jigsaw Homes’ Voids team is actively making a difference to the local community thanks to their heartfelt charity work.
The team has partnered up with charitable trust Positive Steps on behalf of SAWN – Support and Action Women’s Network, to find a better home for quality household items left behind in our void properties.
SAWN supports Black African women in Oldham by providing a safe space for them and their families to grow and become more independent through a variety of services, support groups and opportunities. Jigsaw have donated goods including fridges, ovens, washing machines, kettles and toasters, as well as items of furniture to the charity’s furniture hub, which are then sold on at discounted prices to those in need.
After receiving furniture from Jigsaw Homes through SAWN’s furniture hub, one local resident said “Thank you so much for everything, my flat looks so nice with all the furniture you have given. I can’t believe there are people like you around. I had nothing to move in with after being homeless and sofa surfing for years. it feels so nice and comfy to lie in a real bed and not on a sofa.”
Jason Woods, Jigsaw’s Operations Manager – Voids, said: “We’ve been working with SAWN for around four years now and have loved being able to support them. They are always really grateful for the items we can provide and it’s nice to know we are helping make a difference to these families’ lives, whether big or small.”
A spokesperson for SAWN said, “We would like to thank Jigsaw Homes for the opportunity you have given us regarding the void properties. Families helped include those with no recourse to public funds, homeless people starting afresh, women fleeing domestic violence and vulnerable families in need, gifting furniture where possible.
“This is not only supporting local families and the community, but improving our carbon footprint by saving good furniture from going to landfill. We are aware of the impact on the planet and how the small steps we have taken together are the next step to making a bigger positive change.”
Jigsaw Homes’ Voids team is also looking to work with The Together Centre in Dukinfield to provide a similar service upcycling furniture to sell in the centre’s charity shop. There are also plans to carry out garden clearances at our properties in Dukinfield and Hyde to help create opportunities for local residents to gain work life experience.
