Sunday Social in Stalybridge

Sunday Social in Stalybridge

Residents at Kendal House, Jigsaw’s Over 55s scheme in Stalybridge, tucked into a tasty Sunday lunch and enjoyed the first, new ‘Sunday Social’ event.

Following feedback that there was a lack of social activity over the weekend and particularly on a Sunday, the new monthly ‘Sunday Social’ was born.

With the highly successful ‘Men In Kitchens’ cookery course complete, this was the perfect chance for the men who took part to use their new found skills to prepare and serve a Sunday lunch alongside social activities for residents across the community.

The Sunday Social has been funded by The Ageing In Place Pathfinder project, based in Ridge Hill, which ensures the voices of people in mid and later life are heard and valued. The aim is to create strong and supportive neighbourhoods to improve connection, health and wellbeing in later life.

Resident Jean, aged 92, said: “This is wonderful being able to get out on a Sunday.  It can be so lonely being stuck in on your own all over the weekend.”

Working closely with members of the Kendal House Social Group, the first two Sunday sessions have been over-subscribed and are set to continue over the coming months
