Dukinfield Central Community Garden has been revitalized and given a brand new lease of life thanks to one of Jigsaw Home’s partners.
Casey Group, the principal contractor working on the upcoming Cavendish Wharf development, asked the Jigsaw Homes Neighborhood Engagement Team to help collaborate on a project as part of their social value commitment.
Their aim was to engage with residents by helping the community make improvements to the local area.
John McGlynn, the Neighbourhood Engagement Officer for Dukinfield, consulted with local residents and suggested replenishing the Dukinfield Central Community Garden in Tameside.
Casey Group generously donated £2,000 to construct two large garden beds which were then filled with topsoil ready for planting in time for the summer growing season.
Flowers will be sewn at the plot and vegetables will be grown for volunteers and local residents to eventually pick and use to cook with.
One growing bed will be used by the local primary school who will plant seeds and soon bury a time capsule to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
Lorraine, one of the volunteers, said, “The new beds look fantastic and we are really looking forward to supporting the local school children to grow and learn with us this year now we have more growing space to use”.
