Schoolchildren in Chorley have sent letters of thanks to our neighbourhood team after they and their families received food vouchers and activity packs over the October half-term holiday.
Pupils from Chorley St James’ C of E Primary School (pictured) and Gillibrand Primary School sent in drawings and letters saying how much the vouchers helped, and how they enjoyed doing some of the activities with their families.
More than 120 families received the packs which included vouchers for Chorley Market, so they could buy fresh produce and make nutritious meals throughout the week.
For those experiencing food poverty due to furlough or unemployment – made worse by the lack of subsidised food provision during the school holidays – the vouchers were a lifeline.
Here’s what some of our residents said:
“The vouchers were a massive help as I am a care worker and my husband has been furloughed since March, so thank you so much.”
“I have 4 boys who love their food. It felt such a relief when I was shopping on the market and not worrying as I knew the vouchers would cover what I had bought.”
“The activity packs were brilliant it made us sit down together and play. I ended up going out to buy more colouring books as we forgot how much we loved doing this when they were younger.”
