The first community warm hub launched last week in Tameside, helping residents combat the cost of living crisis.
The hub, based at the Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre in Ashton and supported by our Neighbourhood Engagement team will run every Monday from 9:30am-4pm during the winter months.
Residents can use the hub as a cosy space to socialise, enjoy a range of activities and talks, and stay warm while avoiding heating their homes for the day.
Warm food and drinks will also be provided and residents can volunteer to help out in the kitchen to gain some work experience as well as a small volunteer expense for their work.
Outreach Worker Hasna Khan said: “Local people in the area are not only finding it difficult to heat their homes but also find it difficult to socialise. A warm hub is a safe place that helps bring people together and empowers them to talk to each other and provide support.”
Resident Alia Firdous said: “The warm hub is an amazing place and here I can have a warm meal and not feel embarrassed, as everyone else is in the same position.”
This is the first of a number of warm hubs across our communities being supported by our Neighbourhoods team. The next to open will be at the Linda Fletcher Community Base, Park Street with Ashton Pioneer Homes on 1 December which will run every Thursday from 10am-4pm.
