Plans Approved For 24 New Affordable Homes In Manchester

A total of 24 affordable homes are set to be built in Ardwick, Manchester after plans were given the go ahead by Manchester City Council.

The plans were submitted by Eden Planning on behalf of local housing provider Jigsaw Homes Group and will be built on land at the junction of Devonshire Street and Coverdale Crescent.

Jigsaw acquired the vacant site from Trafford-based regeneration specialists Peel Waters in conjunction with Manchester City Council.

There will also be off-street parking, as well as seven parking spaces and 28 cycle spaces and landscaped areas. It will offer high levels of energy efficiency to ensure low running costs for residents.

The homes, which will be available for social rent, will be allocated by Manchester City Council to meet local housing need as part of the Single Homeless Accommodation Programme (SHAP) and residents will receive tailored support through Jigsaw Support to help them on the path to living independently.

Funding for the development comes from Homes England and the Department for Levelling Up, Homes and Communities.

Garnet Fazackerley, Operations Director of Development at Jigsaw Homes Group said: “We have a strong track record of delivering quality, affordable housing and we are pleased to have acquired the land from Peel Waters so we can transform this unused site into more much-needed homes. We are looking forward to working with Manchester City Council, Homes England, DLUHC and our partners to bring this scheme to life.”

Peter Linstead, Development Director at Peel Waters added: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with the Jigsaw Homes Group to repurpose this vacant brownfield site into new, affordable homes. This site offers a great opportunity to help meet local housing need and once built will provide modern, sustainable, and thoughtfully designed homes just a stone’s throw from Manchester city centre.”

Councillor Joanna Midgley, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council said: “We are delighted to be working on this scheme with partners to provide much needed, high quality longer-term supported housing for single people with a history of homelessness.  This scheme will ensure that people receive the right personalised support until they are ready to take the next step towards independent living.”

Work on the scheme is expected to complete in August 2025.

Architects for the project are DK Architects, planning is by Eden Planning and contractors are RP Tyson Construction.

The acquired site falls within Peel Waters’ wider land portfolio. To find out more about acquiring sites from Peel Waters please visit https://www.peelwaters.co.uk/opportunities/
