New Homes and Community Allotments Planned in Skelmersdale

Proposals to create 60 new affordable homes along with allotments and a new community building in Skelmersdale look set to move forward.

The scheme, on two acres of land off Barnes Road, is being developed by Mulbury on behalf of Jigsaw Homes Group.

Planning consent has been granted for up to 60 homes on the site, while a grant funding application has been submitted to Homes England to help fund the new affordable homes.

The two-storey homes, which will be available for affordable rent, will be built alongside a new community building and a small car park, as well as a public open space and 12 allotments. The building will provide a modern, energy-efficient space for use by local groups.

The two, three and four-bedroom homes will benefit from private front and rear gardens and off-road parking. Existing trees on the site will be retained, while new landscaping has been proposed along with further tree planting.

Joanne Bonnington, Assistant Director of Development at Jigsaw Homes Group said: “As a housing provider with a great track record of delivering high-quality homes, we are pleased to be able to bring these much-needed affordable homes to local people in Skelmersdale. It’s a great location and one where we think a lovely, new community will thrive.”

Greg Mulligan, director of Mulbury, said: “This site is in a great location for new affordable homes, lying just a short distance from the town centre.

“We are working hard to ensure that the scheme quickly becomes a part of the local community, with public space, landscaping and community facilities very much key to this development.

“The site was once used as local playing fields but has been unused and fenced off from public access for a number of years, so it will be great to see it brought back into use under these plans.”

Mulbury is also progressing a £4.1m scheme of 39 affordable homes in Winsford for Jigsaw Homes Group, which will comprise 20 cottage-style apartments and 19 houses for affordable rent for those that have a local connection to the area. The Skelmersdale development is the fifth scheme which Mulbury has worked on with Jigsaw.
