The Jigsaw Homes Neighbourhood Engagement Team supported families across Tameside and Manchester by providing holiday hunger food packs to people nominated by local primary schools.
Neighbourhood Officers Joanne Shaw and Vikki Barry invited families to the Miles Platting Community Hub and Ridge Hill estate in Stalybridge to collect their food packs while also providing a warm space for to have a hot drink, a snack and a chat. They also received energy advice or were referred to our energy voucher scheme.
Joanne Shaw said: “This was a great opportunity to meet families in the area that we haven’t had any contact with previously and promote other activities going on in the area that may benefit them.
“During the event we were also able to give general advice and referrals were made to the Money Advice Team and Tameside Welfare Rights.”
In Tameside, at the Hazelhurst Community Hub, around 30 children enjoyed a creative afternoon of arts, crafts and planting. Children decorated their own plant pots and planted daffodils to take home.
Neighbourhood Officer Gemma Batchelor joined Rainbow Surprise to hold activities for local children at Crumpsall Primary School including arts and crafts, fun games along with a hot meal and snacks.
Residents in Ashton were also invited to attend a special trip to the theatre courtesy of Oldham Coliseum.
Organised by Neighbourhood Officer Minaz Aslam, 30 women were invited to watch the latest play ‘The Engagement Party’ by Afshan D’souza-Lodhi which saw members of the local community participate in a celebration of theatre, music and drama. Free tickets and transport were also provided by Oldham Coliseum.
