The board of Jigsaw Homes Tameside, subject to regulators and funders providing consent, is looking to convert Jigsaw Homes Tameside from a charitable company limited by guarantee to a community benefit society (CBS). As part of the conversion process Jigsaw Homes Tameside would like to consult with its residents, stakeholders and employees about the change.
Whilst Jigsaw Homes Tameside is converting from a charitable company to a CBS, it will still retain charitable status and therefore will still be subject to charity law. The CBS conversion will help to harmonise the constitutions of the landlords within the Jigsaw Homes Group and streamline governance arrangements, making decision making simpler.
If you are a tenant or leaseholder with Jigsaw Homes Tameside, the change does not impact in any way on the terms and conditions of your tenancy or lease and your rights are unaffected. The legal advice that the Group has received states that:
‘Consultation with (although not consent from) residents and employees will be required prior to any final decision to proceed, and responses to this consultation will need to be considered before making the final decision to convert.
