Festive Fun in our Neighbourhoods

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team have spread Christmas cheer across our communities with a range of fun-filled, festive events.

Residents at Sherdley Court, our Over 55’s scheme in Crumpsall, and year 4 pupils at Crumpsall Primary School in Manchester joined together for an intergenerational crafting event to create Christmas table decorations.

They made decorations and Christmas wreaths to take home and sell at the school’s Christmas fair.

The event was organised by Officer Gemma Batchelor, Clair Morris, Scheme Coordinator, and Kelly from Crumpsall Primary School following the success of planting workshops hosted earlier in the year.

At the Broadoak Community Centre in Smallshaw, Officer Carolyn Alston hosted a Christmas party for young people and a Christmas lunch for older residents.

Around 60 residents attended the lunch and enjoyed performances from a Boy George tribute act and Christmas carols from students at Oasis Academy Primary school.

A total of 45 children attended the party and danced to a DJ, tucked into a buffet and each child received a selection box.

Officer Minaz Aslam organised a senior Christmas party in partnership with Ashton Pioneer Homes for the Community Gathering Residents Group at the Holy Trinity Community Centre in Ashton.

More than 30 residents attended and enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner served with trifle and mince pies which was provided by Allen’s bakery. They also took part in a free raffle and listened to Christmas carols from the choir at Holy Trinity Primary School.

They were joined by partners at Tameside Council, Greater Manchester Police, the Mayor of Tameside, Betty Affleck, and Cllr Joyce Bowerman who commented: “It was great to host another seniors Christmas party this year. The older residents really look forward to this event as it’s a chance for them to enjoy the festivities with friends and neighbours and also have a chance to socialise with others.

“It’s rewarding to see so much laughter and fun and I look forward to hosting another event next year!”
