House Exchange Aims to Ease Housing Shortage

Jigsaw partnered up with House Exchange and held an informative event in Ashton, encouraging more residents to mutually exchange their homes and find a place that best suits their needs.

Our Lettings team and representatives from House Exchange joined together at Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre so local residents could learn more about ‘house swapping’ through House Exchange’s platform.

A mutual exchange allows social housing residents to swap homes with one another, making it easier to find the right space or location for them.

It ensures residents have more flexibility if their current home no longer meets their needs and are looking for a larger home, if they are looking to downsize or simply want a change of location.

Around 55 people attended the event and received expert advice on how best to exchange their home, including how to create a standout advert, improve their matches with other residents and even connect with others who are looking to swap their homes.

Estimated figures suggest that more than 9,000 people are on the waiting list for housing in Tameside.

Dean Wall, Jigsaw’s Head of Lettings, said: “This was a very successful event and we saw a 375% increase in active users signing up to the House Exchange platform.

“As residents’ needs change, it’s important they have a home that best suits these needs, and we encourage our residents to consider using House Exchange to find the most ideal home for them.”

One resident from Ashton said “The event was very informative, and all of the staff were very friendly, approachable and easy to talk to. I really enjoyed how well things were explained and how easy it was to register with House Exchange.

We also plan to host other homes swap events for residents in Manchester, Chorley and Nottingham.
